Girls Try Hockey For Free

Try Hockey for Free is designed for kids with little or no prior skating experience, open for ages 5-14. This 1-day session at community rink partners in the tri-state area will feature professional female hockey players teaching young players the basics along with the Rangers Hockey Development Team! The session includes free rental skates and loaner equipment and a post-skate meet & greet with our talent onsite. The program is limited to 65 participants and space is filled by a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants will also be able to register for the Girls Hockey League on site!

Girls Hockey League

Join us for the Junior Rangers Girls Hockey League presented by Dunkin, a program that is built specifically for girls ages 10-14. This league is designed to encourage participation in the sport with a focus on increasing access and visibility while developing important life skills. Led by the Rangers Hockey Development Team, the program will begin in this fall at community ice rinks across the Tri-State Area. The schedule will include games each week throughout the tri-state area.

Participant Package

Each $395 registration includes the following:

  • 10 weeks of programming per season
    • Inclusive of Regional Travel Games and Local Practices
  • Appearances by professional female hockey ambassadors.

  • Access to special experiences & offers

Format

The Junior Rangers Girl's Hockey League presented by Dunkin' is designed to provide a unique playing experience in an organized and structured environment with practices at your home rink and games being played within your region only. Girls ages 5-14 will practice each week at each location's respective rink.

For games, girls will travel within their region to play home games and regional away games based on the schedule.

Our regional teams will be as followed:

  • New York Region (Brewster Ice Arena and IceTime Sports Complex)
  • New Jersey Region (Montclair State University Arena, Bridgewater Sports Arena, Skylands Ice World)
  • Long Island Region (Dix Hills Sports Complex, The Emile Francis Memorial Ice Arena at The City of Long Beach)

Eligibility

The Junior Rangers Girls Hockey League presented by Dunkin' is available to girls between the ages of 11 - 14 years old and girls 10 and under respectively. Players of all skill levels are welcome to participate from girls who are getting on the ice for the first time, just getting back in the game, and girls with a few years of experience. For beginner players we recommend joining our All Girls Learn to Play program, which includes free equipment and professional instruction for first time players. Girls Learn To Play

Learn the basics!

Getting started in hockey has never been easier or more convenient! This introductory program will teach your child the basic skills of skating, stick-handling, passing and shooting through (10) 1-hour lessons. In addition, they will learn the importance of hardwork, teamwork and sportsmanship. Best of all, your child's registration also includes a FREE brand new set of head to toe CCM hockey equipment custom fitted by our friends at Pure Hockey. Past participants are welcomed to join Learn to Play for another season or all three! However, they will not receive a set of equipment if they have participated in the program before.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I register my children more than once for the program?

Yes - children can participate in all scheduled seasons pending on availability.

Do you provide scholarship opportunities?

What is the current refund policy?

a. A refund will be provided per request if the New York Rangers or its partner facilities must cancel the sessions for any reason and can't make up the sessions. The refund will be based on the number of sessions completed.

b. A refund will be provided per request minus a $50 transaction fee due to participant injury or illness. The participants parent/guardian must provide a doctor's note in order to receive a refund.

c. The Rangers do not provide refund or make up sessions due to missed sessions that don't fall under the above circumstances.

d. Program credits are also an option if your situation falls under provisions 1 & 2.

What is the coach to student ratio?

Our Junior Rangers Youth Hockey Development Staff is focused on delivering the best experience for your child. By maintaining a 10:1 player to instructor ratio we ensure all players are challenged and growing regardless of age and ability.

Are there next step programs available when my child is ready to advanced?

If your child is ready for the next level, please contact us at 212-465-6553 or [email protected] and we will do our best to find a next step program in your area. In addition to NYR programming, we partner with over 60 youth hockey associations across the tri-state.

Does my child need to know how to skate before they sign up?

If your child does not know how to skate, we recommend our Junior Rangers Learn to Play program to learn the basics! This program encompasses a Learn to Skate, Learn to Play 1 and Learn to Play Skill level across all participating locations. A one stop shop to begin your hockey journey!

How much do these programs cost?

Learn to Play, the Girls Hockey League and Rookie League (limited travel) cost $295 for the 10-week program respectively.

Rookie League (In-House Only) costs $395 and includes 2 hours of ice per week for 10 weeks.

What do these costs cover?

These costs cover ice time and other associated fees including supplies and staffing.

What equipment is required for the program?

Included in the registration, all participants will receive (1) Junior Rangers jersey per registration. Participants will be required to bring their own gear including: a helmet with cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey pants, shin guards, hockey skates, a hockey stick, socks and an equipment bag. We also recommend a mouth guard and athletic supporter for all participants. All equipment is required to be worn during each on-ice session. We also recommend each participant bring their own water bottle.

What time should I arrive at the arena?

You should arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to start time for your first activity to provide enough time for your child to check-in and get dressed prior to the on-ice session.

I want to register my child but it is sold out, is there a waiting list?

Yes. In the event that the session that you are attempting to register for is sold out, please complete registration and you will automatically be added to a waiting list. Your card will not be charged and you will be contacted should a spot become available.

Is there a Pro Shop on site?

The majority of our community rink partners have a pro-shop on location, however some do not. Please check the rinks website to find more information on your location. If you need assistance, please reach out to us at [email protected]

Can parents and guest stay and watch?

Parents and guest are welcomed to stay and observe at our camps unless facility the facility guidelines state otherwise. We also request that you refrain from trying to enter the dressing rooms or surrounding hallways unless otherwise specified.
